When most people think of Georgia, they think of Atlanta, the prestigious Masters Golf tournament, magnolia blossoms, college football, the Atlanta Braves, and red clay.
But, millions of years ago, as silt and sediment washed from the Appalachian Mountains to the coast, a natural resource known as kaolin began to form in the eastern part of Georgia-in a place now called Hephzibah.
Kaolin occurs in extremely large, pure, and uniform deposits. Once discovered and mined, this pure white clay became not only the building block for Thermal Ceramics, but for an entire industry.
Augusta was selected as headquarters for Thermal Ceramics because of its close proximity to the Hephzibah Mine and the abundant kaolin clay deposits!
